Help me understand campagnolo brakes

I have pre-2000 campagnolo dual pivot brake calipers ('98 chorus). I need brake pads. I know for sure that I do not have the original holders but they look like reproductions. The pads are ovalized and pretty wide in the center - kinda like OEM. The holder allows the pads to slide out and there is no bolt holding them to the holder. New rear rim has a thin braking sidewall. The pads are too wide for the rim.

Can I use any holder - shimano or campy pre, post 2000 on my calipers? I measured my calipers as having a 8mm wide slot. LBS cant seem to give me straight answer cause they are not familiar with campy. I would think any holder that fits in the 8mm slot would work. Is that correct?

What makes shimano holders different than campy? What is the difference between campy pre- post- 2000?

My head is swimming and all I want to do is slow down!
