I would expect a minor scratch or two if I have someone else handle, ride, or work on my bike. Sucks about this scratch, but I wouldnt let it bother you. If they dented up your frame or scratched your paint significantly, I would have a different opinion.

Trust me -- you'll have more scratches in no time, especially if you lock up on the street. Get used to it.

A pump, patch kit, and levers do not take up any space in an apartment -- that's a silly excuse not to have these things. You'll save money, fix flats in 5 mins rather than waiting until the next day like you did, and you will avoid anyone else damaging your bike.

unless you have a support team following you like you were a pro, self-sufficiency is a worthwhile objective.
