It works great. I love the campy setup. Being able to shift multiple speeds at a time and routing all the cables under the bar tape is fantastic. I originally wondered about the whole thumb button thing, but that is one of the best parts. It is incredibly easy to upshift while accellerating. So, I recently got a Cannondale road tandem that came with 9 speed Tiagra's. Wow, those did not compare. I can't speak to the comparison to ultegra, but I quickly found some Centaurs for really cheap and replaced them. Just like the road bike, the tandem now has 10 speed campy centaurs, with a 9 speed shimano hub, and it works flawlessly.
I got my Centaur shifters from Ribble for a great price, around $235 with shipping.
I did have to wait a few months before they got some in stock, but once they had them the shipping was quick.
