thanks jacksbike, yeah he combo you speak of seems to be the most common mentioned. the cranks are O.M.A.S on this one. it's entirely possible that it's a complete replacement of kit on the bike by a previous owner or the parts were heisted for another bike, but i'm just totally in love with the frame and forks on this bike! running gear be damned!

The one thing the seller warned me of is the relatively minor issue of crumbly rotting brake lever hoods, so now the search is on for something to replace them. that might prove harder than i imagine...
