I thought that I had to replace my BB...again. Twice in 6 months is just wrong.
On the 14th of November I rode through floods in Delaware. Well, on Sunday, my BB started giving me hell, since I didn't pull it out after the flood ride. I did the hubs in my wheels, but I was just too lazy to break down the crank and BB.
Yesterday, on the way home from work (driving), I stopped at Performance Bike to pick up another BB. I get home, eat some dinner, then proceed to pull the bearings. One side was ok and the left side felt like it was binding. I treated both sides to a cleaning with WD40 followed by an oil bath and then a grease repack. The bearings that were binding felt much better, but not completely smooth, so I think I have some pitting in the balls and/or race. Still, it was smooth enough to attempt reinstallation.
This morning, during my ride in, everything felt great. The chain skip I experienced on Sunday was gone and I could put power into the pedals. I thought to myself that I should do this maintenance more often whether I ride through a lake or not.
