If the OP doesn't want clipless pedals, he should not buy them. There is zero real downside to borrowing a setup, though. The fitting might be useful if it looks at reach too. Even getting "expert" advice about saddle height might make it useful.

Bicycling is a physical activity and it does take some experience getting used to it. Fitting isn't exact anyway since, even wth clipless pedals, the cyclist moves around! There are also differences in what people prefer that requre different fits.
