Early 70's = no spandex. Wool. Jerseys and shorts, and shorts have real chamois in the crotch. Don't even think of putting jersey or shorts in a washing machine or drier. Shorts = black and only black, with optional white lettering of team name on the bottom outside of each leg. No bibs - suspenders okay, but no bibs. Shoes = black, preferably Detto Pietros, polished all over, including the bottoms. that worked). And under that alleged helmet called a hairnet (kept your skull together for easier identification), a cotton cycling cap. worn backwards with the brim up. The cap, jersey and shorts should all sport the same team name for full points.
Extra points if the jersey has two chest pockets in addition to the three in the back. Extra-extra points if your spare tubular is folded up and covered by an old issue of L'Equipe or La Gazzetta Della Sport with the whole mess strapped under the back of the saddle using on old Binda toe clip strap.
