ROAR! (I get annoyed when people tell others what pedals to buy when they have knee problems!)

The answer is finding a great shop that understands and will let you try different pedals. There is no one answer -- that I've yet heard of -- for injured knees. I was told "more float, yeah man, more float!" BZZZZ wrong. Some people with knee problems love and need more float. Some do not! I don't. I'm very pleased with my pedals after trying several kinds.

As for shoes, don't bother with any that have a rather flexible sole. Try on a bunch with good soles, walk around the store and browser. Then walk on the balls of your feet and see how that feels. Well, that worked for me. Love my shoes.

You may need a semi-custom insert like SuperFeet. I spent a few dollars more and went with www.yoursole.com

My pedals, shoes and insert cost me ~$240. My regular riding partner got mtb shoes that she loves and they cost ~$30 less than my road shoes.
