It works fine on its own with just a T shirt under it down into to the Teens. In the low single digits (not counting wind chil) in a heavy windy day I'll put on an extra wind breaker layer. I don't recall what the material he used on my top. It is Yellow and slightly fuzzy. It sheds show and light rain without any problem. The main material is nearly 100% wind proof yet allows tons of moisture to pass out. Along the sides and the arms there is also a band of even more breathable materials. I may arrive at work warm and weating hard from the activity, but my coat does NOT get wet in any way. I LOVE these modern wind prood fleece products! I also bought his power shield pants. These are made of a smooth VERY water resistant material (black only). They are super comfortable and keep me warm down into the low single digits. On a very windy day when the (non wind chill) temp is close to zero (up to -26F) I will put on my rain pants to act as an extra wind barrier to stay warm. The two together cost me about $160, but they are the foundation for staying warm and comfortable from 40F down to 0F. As a side note Lou is great to talk to and will help you determine what materials will work best in you area for your riding conditions. You can also mention if you have any normal fitment issues. For instance are all XL shirts still to short in the arms... then he can adjust your clothing at no extra cost!
Happy riding,

+1, also ask him to add reflective material. Power shield, the material used, is the best by far.
