Peugeot used the aphanumeric designations through the 90's, they just didnt refer to the models by them.

The PH501 models originaly had 3 main tubes 501 with Carbolite 103 everywhere else. It went to full 501 tubing throughout and apparently went back to 3 main tubes only as there's no designation on the forks to say otherwise.
