In retrospect it just would be a better bag for my purposes; the two straps of the back pack would spread the heavy load created by my school books more evenly across my shoulders instead of the Commuter's single shoulder strap. What's that saying about hindsight being 20/20?

Otherwise the Commuter is a great pannier; it's got great features and the hook system is flawless. The laptop pouch works perfectly. I got the optional rain cover and it has so far protected the bag from some heavy precipitation and road grime. Arkel makes a great product.
