The data from the poll shows that practical use and supply of parts is more important than historical concerns.

My classic will look stock and the heart and soul of the bike will remain as provided by the factory. I'm not a purist, the bike must be comfortable to use and reliable enough for a century ride. This has prompted me to upgrade selectively. I'm keeping the 120mm rear spacing and 2x5 gearing, but I've changed the wheelset to a mix of period correct hubs and old-school polished 700c rims. The seatpost has been updated and the pedals are now Look Keo Classics.

I'm lucky that the 36 year bike is a good match for my flat good-weather riding requirements. I have modern bikes for hills and bad weather usage.
