Copenhagen 2009 conference

Hey all,

I'm in Copenhagen for COP15 (The UN's conference on Climate Change) and it's been a blast. Copenhagen has a bike culture like no other I've ever seen. It's amazing, 50% of city residents ride their bike EVERY day. This includes winter, and Scandinavian winters don't mess around. Talking to a local about it he told me that the city actually plows the bike lanes before they plow the roads. This made me amazingly happy, a city that asks how can we make the bikes happy before they ask "how can we make the cars happy" is how it should be. I feel that at a conference where the main goal is to reduce carbon output throughout the world we should just buy everyone a bike and throw their cars in the trash. I'm gonna start taking some pics of the bikes and I hope to post them when I get back (semi-pressed for time and internet is uber expensive here). Utility bikes are everywhere and just the other day I saw a family of 5 taking a ride on 2 bikes (the dad had a "tub" bike with 2 toddlers and the mom was riding a tandem with the eldest son). If you want to follow the conference but don't have time to do some serious reading check out my classes BLOG. Thanks for checking this out and if you're not aware of the conferences or Copenhagen's bike culture some simple google searches will help you out and are well worth it, after all the future of the world does depend on it.

ps. A little bird told me that Obama's got a good deal in the works but only if Mexico, India, China, Brazil, and Indonesia get onboard with a more "Global Deal"

Jon
