Park's less exp. book as kycycler recs. is really good. They also have the Big Blue Book; used is 55, new 200 which is a bit much. It goes into shock repair, late type carbon bike comp. rep. etc.
I don't have my Park Book with me right now and don't recall the exact version, I recall it cost me over 20. It's a dry read, an illustrated guide with many refs. to their tools. It was lacking though for the beginner I should say. I see other books on Amazon that appeal to me more.
Tim Cuthbertson has "Anybody's Bike Book", the best place to start. He writes in a very plain amusing way. This is important; such writings can be read at leisure and as a result; better understood as well as memorized. You'll have a feel for bike repair, not only the raw "facts". Park is a ref. guide, boring and photos aren't as telling as simpler illustrations and the authors unassuming "take" on all...
The Park book, as accurate as it is, overlooks and assumes that you know more a few basics.
