The "standard vehicular rules of the road" are what allows to get on a plane, fly to Paris, and know how to drive a car or ride a bike there in accordance with the same rules that everyone else is operating under.
Please be
VERY careful when applying what you consider a standard rule outside your familiar surroundings. More than once I have been surprised to find out in these Forums that a road practice I (and other road users around where I live) take for granted will not work somewhere else. Some of these differences can be fatal, especially for a cyclist.
