My new project - 1985 Schwinn Voyageur SP

I see you found a nice Voyageur. I had the 84 Voyageur SP, but needed money and sold it. Now 28 years later I have lost enough weight to ride again. Looked on eBay and found an 85 Voyageur SP. Only one problem, it is just a bare frame. Not even a front fork came with it. I have been trying to decide if I can build it with medium to good quailty componets as cheap as I could get a new Surly LHT. I have come to the conculison that will not be possible, but I am poor and can not come up with one large sum of money for a new bike. So I will start looking for parts and buy one piece at a time. One of the things I would like to do is widen the rear triangle to fit a wider hub and newer gear setup like an 8 or 9 speed.

I have read about cold setting (bending) the rear triangle on Sheldon Brown's web site and it does not seem to hard. But never having worked on bikes before this tends to scare me a little. If any one know where I can get hold of a front fork for my 85 Schwinn Voyageur SP please let me know.
