LA may just be the most car centric city you will ever find in the US. It was designed with cars in mind and freeways connecting almost every part of the city. The 405, 605, 111, 710, 5, and 210 just to name a few. Not much chance of those freeways being closed on the weekends.
I think it is an interesting idea but I doubt if the voters would support it. Many families in LA are three and four car families
The jokes about LA and California are pretty true, people will jump in their car to drive one or two blocks to the 7-11. But they do have some pretty good mass transit.
You're right of course. But Angelenos are also proud of being trend setters, so maybe they will want to lead the way in becoming a carfree or carlight city. Who knows? Stranger things have happened....
