I don't do criteriums or stage races because

a) Crits have always been boring for me,
b) I don't have enough motivation to train for them, and
c) Outside collegiate racing, they are expensive.

I also don't like having to waste my Friday and Saturday nights to early weekend morning rides that I usually don't want to do, or spend incredible amounts of money on items that don't provide that much return for me. It also doesn't help that I'm incredibly lazy most of the time...

Finally, the only two times I raced outside of college weren't welcoming experiences. The folks seemed pretty mean and the race directors were pretty uptight. Nothing about it made me want to stay, though I can understand those who are turned on to that sort of thing.

I ride mostly for fun and to keep myself fit, so that gives me the ability to ride when I want for as long as I want.
