Rockshox Reba Race or SL would be an excellent choice for you, BlueSkyCycling.com is selling them for $400. It will be light for any type of riding and stiff and strong enough to stick some landings. The best all around fork I have ever ridden. Most importantly I think that the 100mm preset travel would give you the sweetspot handling you are looking for.
