chipcom, when I said that I meant that "normal" guys generally stare at me blankly when I make a nerd reference, like a Star Wars quote. It's hard to have a conversation with someone who has no idea what I'm talking about.
UK, "normal" simply means "non-nerd" the way I was using it.
Band Geeks are their own category. I'm more of a Sci-Fi Nerd. Trekkies are a sub-category of the Sci-Fi Nerds. I am not a Trekkie.
Another category is the Tech Nerd. The categories are not mutually exclusive.
The hierarchies are within the categories. There are the Nerd Kings, who are the leaders within each nerd group. Nerd Champions are the athletic ones. I was arguing with a friend over this - he put me in the Nerd Princess category, which he was defining as "girls who hang out with nerds but aren't all that nerdy". I kicked his butt in a hurley game shortly after this, and I think he finally agreed to place me in the Nerd Champion group.
And please keep in mind that most of us were drunk when the topic came up. My particular group of nerd friends do their best thinking after a few drinks.
