If you're talking about wax-based chain lubes, then the answer is they don't stay on very well and they don't protect well against rust. It's best to dry the chain then reapply after getting rained on. If you ride a lot in wet, then an oil-based lube will work better. I love White Lightning, but I'm almost exclusively a fair-weather cyclist.
