People use Tiagra FD's with 48-36-24 gearing for touring when they want to run STI controls along with XT (or similar) RD's with 9 spd 11-32 or 11-34 cassettes. IRD makes a couple of derailleurs to help here and one is for a triple chain ring set up. Shiftmate offers some help depending on what you want to end up with.
