Combine piss-poor maintenance with a mandatory usage law, with more than our fair share of poorly designed facilities shoehorned in as an afterthought, and with the local public perception that the mere existence of taxpayer-funded bikeways revokes cyclists' rights to travel on the roadway, and perhaps one might understand why I am less than an ardent supporter of cycling facilities.
