Don't be obtuse, recommendations extrapolated from the experience of those outliers about what is or isn't "too far" for year round commuting are as meaningful as recommendations from Oahu that ignore the weather related issues elsewhere.
I don't really understand this post, but I do feel that

a) most people have no idea what it's like to ride a bike in "bad" weather, but are pleasantly surprised when they do discover it, and

b) Many individuals on this forum are "outliers" in the sense that they can and do enjoy riding long distances in varying conditions on a daily basis. This is, after all, Bikeforums, not Couchpotatoforums.
