I've seen you mention this before, but I have no idea what you mean. Could you please explain what "claim the lane unnecessarily" means? To me, the laws are pretty simple about this. If I have the right to take the lane, then it is not unnecessary, it is for my safety. Doing anything otherwise would be unsafe.
I also don't understand what you mean by being rude and impeding the progress of others. How is it rude for me to ride my bike in a safe legal manner? If the lane is wide enough to share, then motorist can share it with me. If not, they can pass me safely by changing lanes. If none of these is practicable, why is it rude? Why is it rude for me to impede others' movement, but not rude for motorist to impede my movement by making me pull off and stop?
