Much of this is pure CL BS. They sold for around $300 ea and were made by Panasonic for Sears. Nobody went to Sears to buy a $300 bike in the early 80's so Sears eventually blew most of them out for $199. They are a nice bike, but were not a high end frame. Thanks for including the vintage ad, pretty cool.
I think a great deal of what he states is either cut and paste from something he googled or some story he was fed by the person he bought them from.
