Just put a front wheel I had close to me on my fish-scale: Sanshin hub, Wolber rim, quick release, Vittoria Pro Team tire (700x23) and tube and rim strip and it was 3.1 lbs (that is 1.4 kilos); I suspect that the tire and the tube might be about 400 grams or so max, so a kilo for a front wheel is not out of the question, but mine are skinny. If the OP's wheel is a wide one, I can see it being 1.3 Kilos...

Rear wheel, same set up (tire, tube, rim, hub) with a Sachs 6 freewheel, survey said: 4.4 lbs (2 kilos). Yes, given the fact that there are tires on it and tubes and stuff, and his Shimano 600 freewheel is about 100 gms ligher than my Sachs, my wheelset is lighter than the OPs (but these are some pretty sweet rims), so I do not see much of a weight issue with the OPs numbers...

Now, on the other end, I have an MTB rear wheel sitting around pulled from an old Schwinn MTB: Steel rim, steel hub, 5 sp freewheel, knobby tire, tube and the works: 8.1 lbs (3700 grams)... just saying
