Just over a year ago, on December 28, 2008 I tried to beat this big blow before it came into town:
I was at the easternmost point of my loop when I heard a train coming. I was near the railroad mainline, so I didn't think anything of it. Got turned westward, rode 100 yards and it hit--like a train. Granny ring on my triple, big cog, all the way down in the drops, and barely moving.
Ordinarily, winds here are in the 15-25 MPH range. I wouldn't get any riding in if I only rode when it was under 10 MPH.
