Of all the local big mountains, San Gorgonio is my favorite. I like the big trees on San Gorgonio.
When I went up there I took the Vivian Creek Trail. This is the most direct and most difficult route to the summit. The first two miles will require a strong effort. There are a couple of camp sites along the way up if you choose to backpack. I haven't done any of the big mountains since the snows. Been in the Santa Monicas ,Verdugos and G.P. doing day hikes. Took an overnighter to Panamint City (Ghost Town) in the hills above Death Valley. Great hike and destination. I use this site to get local hiking information :
