Well, it may not damage the rims, but if you have suspension it may not be so good to hang it upside down. This is because the suspension is designed to compress then bounce back, not to be stretched out. This effect probably depends on the suspension type but I know it is a problem for the rear suspension of Alex Moulton bicycles.
