I had a strange thing happen on this morning's ride.
At the end of a descent, I hit the right shifter to change to a lower gear and all I got was...well...nothing. Just a bit of flapping, not even a double click!
(FYI bike is Force 2010 equipped).
So I'm stuck in my top gear (11) and I pull over.
I look at the back of the bike and the cable housing and ferrule going from the cable stop on the chain stay is loose. Not sure how that even happened!
It took a bit of effort to get the housing back into place - almost 1cm of slack needed to get it back into the cable stop. The process had stretched or loosened the cable tension, so even though I wound out the barrel adjuster I was stuck two gears down for the next climb.
Luckily it was all easily fixed once I stopped at a friends house and borrowed the tools that I should have been carrying anyway.
Has this ever happened to anyone? Do you have any ideas how it might have happened?
Bike was serviced a week ago, so my only thought is that the clamp on the cable wasn't tight enough and worked loose enough to allow some slippage - possibly as I hit a bump and got some 'chain slap'.
