yes you will. but you'll also plateau.

any well thought out training program includes endurance miles (either long or SST or idealy some of both), threshold development, VO2Max work, AWC work, nm power work, and recovery. it's the mixture and timing of these that makes training not a one size fits all proposition. that's my point.

back to the original post - not an answer to how much the typical cat 3 trains, but I can tell you from my team, which are all Cat 1s and 2s, the typical training volume ranges between 8 hrs/week and 15 hrs/week. everyone has a little different approach based on what works for them and whether they're focusing on crits, road races, or stage races in the upcoming season. one mad man who is U23 and on his way to belgium for the spring is putting down 25 - 30 hrs./week, but he's young, has lots of time, and has pro aspirations.
