You realize the part that actually has any chance of hitting the ground will actually be thinner with the DA than with a strap and clip setup? Pretty much any pedal can take a reasonable impact and still be usable, and even solid steel stuff will get scratched up if you slide them along the pavement. And yes, you can move pedals around as you like.
I don't read the SS forum, but if you ever say you like fixies because you don't have to deal with the complexity of shifting, I totally understand....
