What punishment? The state is merely ensuring that he won't put anyone else in society at risk, at least for a few years, and during that time he will be rehabillitated. Victim compensation is for the civil courts.
Agree. I was referring to those who want him *****, etc. Jail should be a place where he learns to be a better person, but I heard it's usually the opposite.
