If you're riding a bike to go somewhere that you would otherwise drive to, then that's a good basis to consider it commuting. If you're riding only for fun, and you start and end at the same place (i.e. your home), then it's not commuting.
Well since I froze my ass off Friday on a 14 mile round trip to the doctor, the optometrist, and lunch, I'm throwing that into the total. If I were a sane person I would have driven. But since I rode it, I'm calling it commute miles.
