When I was in the service, I went back and forth between smoking and not.

I noticed that they years I smoked, i was faster in the required 2-mile run than in the non-smoking years!

Nevertheless, I quit 8 years ago, and still despise the smell of the foul things.

I've also seen it, almost every year; some drunkard in ragged jean jacket and ripped khakis, rolling an old 10-speed rustpile with 2 working gears, and steady sucking on that cigarette while they ride at about 7 mph. That, or an immigrant restaurant worker on his way to/from the job, riding a Wally Special, again about 7 mph, puffing away -- at least they're dressed better! (Anyone who thinks I'm profiling, realize that I'm going by evidence of my eyes.)
