Bikes: Two wheeled ones

Schnayke - I was not a seriously competitve rider by any stretch, but I did do about 4-5 cat 4 races as a teen and about half the people racing used clinchers. That was in the late 80s/early 90s. Almost everyone I knew used them for training rides due to the hassle of flatting tubulars. The needs of a racer are probably far different than the needs of people on this forum and we don't have crews chasing after us with replacement wheels.

Because I haven't used tubulars, I won't speak against them...but the cost alone and time/effort they need over clinchers better result in a dramatic difference in performance to justify it to me. I'm sure some of this depends on where you ride...I ride in Philly, and we have a fair amount of broken glass, bottles, pot holes, trash....etc. I get flats often enough where I want to be able to recover from them quickly.
