Max speed of 60 mph?

I'm posting this in the Road forum since I figure you guys know more than anybody about going fast. So my friend was trying to tell me his dad, who has a road bike (and since their family is loaded, probably a mad nice road bike) maxed out at around 60 mph on a downhill. I told him he was full of ****. He was insistent; however I am sure that one or more of the following is happening:

1. He doesn't know that much about bikes or biking (this is a fact) and the info is getting garbled/blown up in transmission
2. His dad's computer was on km instead of miles; however I told him this was the most likely possibility and he insisted it wasn't the case
3. His dad was ****ing with him (the friend is a bad liar so I would know if he was just making it up to mess with me)

anyway is it possible with current technology for a road bike to go 60 mph? On a downhill with a large rider?
