Have you tried to remove those covers? I'm not sure they're removeable. The ones on my Ultegras won't budge.
I believe they are glued on. But they are removable. When the end is taken off of a Shimano barcon lever what's left is square tang with some sharp edges. It isn't like a Campy barcon which is just a DT lever mounted on a housing. Call your LBS up and see if they can get a set for you. Good luck
