About 5 years ago, I bought a $400 Rancilio Silvia espresso machine figuring it'd save me money I was burning at the local Starbucks. Got a good burr grinder as well. It's been a damn good investment. That and a French press suit me fine.

I like African origins, but I've had some really good Brazilian "Santos" beans lately. These beans usually aren't notable in an way, a good base for an espresso blend, but I've taken to pulling shots of it by itself and making a couple cups in my press. Very straightforward, no nonsense coffee. And cheaper too!
