The catch is, people with low disposable income aren't going to drop $1250 on a bike. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but I would like to think that the people with low(er) disposable income shopping for a road bike would want to make sure they're not wasting money and do their homework. You can walk out of an LBS with a full 105 aluminum bike for $1200, depending on the brand, and know that it fits and will be backed up with service.
If they were really into being thrifty and wanting a throwaway frame with better components, they would buy a bike with an Ultegra mix for under $800
at a certain online retailer.
