Basically, my requirements are: AA batteries, ~$30, strobe, at least 1.5 hours life, water/shock-proof, no battery pack, small enough to fit into a pocket.
Check out the AA section at Shining Beam for a light that fits your needs. I've ordered from them several times and they are top notch all the way around. The lights ship from New York. You'll have a lot more options if you bump your budget up to $40.
