My usual goal is to get up by 4:30, and leave by 5:30 for my one hour commute, but usually I'm about a half-hour behind schedule. It's no big deal since I don't have a specifically designated start time at work, but usually expected by about 8:00 AM. I leave early to enjoy the diminished traffic. If I leave after 6:00 AM, traffic picks up significantly. During the winter if that occurs, it adds an extra hazard because I need to keep moving in order to ventilate my eyeglasses to prevent fogging.

During the nice weather when training for a century, my ride can be up to 1.5 hours longer, and I adjust accordingly, usually try to leave no later than about 5:00 AM.
