You did a good job on the bike! I agree that you should leave the silver spoke wheels for some contrast. They make the bike really pop.

One thing I want to offer for guys using downtube shifters is this: If you are right handed, it's easier to shift with your left hand. If you connect your brake levers so that the brake you use predominantly, (usually the front), is controlled by your right hand, you will have better stability when shifting or signaling with your left. It just takes practice.
