Around my house, there's a real double standard. Things like high heeled shoes, purses, fancy undies, etc. are all strictly off limits for criticism and scrutiny. Skis, bike gear purchases, etc. are thoroughly analyzed and often compared to the food, shelter and education products that the money could have been better spent on if the spender been thinking of anyone other than himself.

This has been going on for more than 30 years.
