Once again, I don't know whether to be amused or distressed.
My husband used to questions my clothing purchases. I'm not high-maintenance, but when he met me I was strictly jeans, tee shirts, and sneakers. I got a professional job, and started buying nice shoes, blouses, skirts, suits, etc. I'm sure my husband wondered what happened to the person he married, and he always asked why I needed another pair of heels when I had several.
I finally found a way to help him understand. He collects model kits. Mostly cars but some ships and other items. He has more kits than he could ever build in his lifetime, but he still buys more. When he asked why I needed another cardigan, I simply said it was exactly why he needed another model kit.
I don't know if any of you can use this approach. Those with more reasonable spouses may understand that the new bike gear is exactly like her new purse. It's different than all of the other purses and makes her feel good/look good.
And for those of you who don't understand why your spouse needs a new purse, maybe this will help. It's exactly why you needed that new bike.
