I presently only have two fixed gear bikes, having crashed my Surly Crosscheck. I'd ride fixed every day if it was never windy. That's the only issue with singlespeed. Wind can make your 12 mile commute very unpleasant. But if you have an alternative way home, (bus or train) like I do, then no worries.
