This will not be the case with any shoe other than racing shoes for clips. Even all the spd shoes you can walk around in are still very flexible acording to your definition. Hav you considered the Vans Warner SPD shoes?
If i were you though, i would get GR-9s and Onitsuka Tiger Ultimate 81s or a equally solid sneaker. They are very good for riding but pedal without a suficently broad platform will eventually break them.
