" I, a straight person, find alternative offensive because it makes something that is wrong to be acceptable behavior."

It's wrong for you, but just in a religious sense. Some people don't put much stock in your religiously-based opinions, Froze, just as people decided religious arguments opposing mixed-race marriages were not worth defending.

"What if I was into beastiality and explained it as just an alternative lifestyle thus it should be accepted? You scorn me now for mentioning beastiality but you would have scorned me 40 years ago if I had mentioned *****exuality."

The slippery-slope argument. If it's valid, then the slip came when society allowed marriage between a man and a woman. If we'd nipped that impulse in the bud, then there'd be no controversy about same-sex marriage, polygamous marriage, marriage between first-cousin canines, etc.

But you're not against marriage between a man and a woman, so your argument against gay marriage is illogical and not to be taken seriously.

As for triples and doubles and compacts, I have five bikes, with from 1 to 10 cogs on their cassettes, so I have the best of all worlds.
