Need ideas for a cheap lubricant for use in Costa Rica (community service tuneups)
Hey all, I know there are hundreds of threads about lubricants, but I have a question with a bit of a twist.
I am here in Costa Rica helping out at a ranch. The ranch owner is very well connected to the neighboring town and tries very hard to provide services to the people here. I have volunteered to do free tune ups for the locals sometime in the near future.
There are no bicycle shops in town, and so it is tough or very expensive to buy bicycle specific lubricants. There is a motorcycle shop, and a gas station.
It is currently the dry season so there is a LOT of fine dry dirt. We are not near the coast so salt content in the area is VERY low. The other half of the year is rainy season, where it rains significantly every day.
Most of the bikes here have cantilever or u brakes and are single speeds. (lot of bikes here come with flipflop hubs and double top tubes stock. kinda cool)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. You have to understand that there is hardly any supply of lubricants here and so we need to get creative.
